Obama takes oath; rallies Americans to confront its own ghost

"Barack Hussein Obama became the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday, and called on Americans to join him in confronting what he described as an economic crisis caused by greed but also “our collective failure to make hard choices.” -The New York Times

it was a surreal moment... definitely one of the moment that will be part of history.

umiiyak ako kanina while listening to his speech. and i couldn't help me.

i have always thought of America as a post-colonial sin to me as a Filipino. I don't like na sina dade, ate, kosher nasa states. i never was really interested in american politics. it was very, very discursive for me, at kung diskurso na ang tema, marami tayo noon at maraming malapit sa espasyo ko ang puwede kong idiskurso hanggang sa mamatay ako.

pero noong narinig ko speech niya kanina, it felt good. and scary at the same time. CHANGE is happening. what he was saying awhile ago was something universal, so fucking spiritual it got me. i was in-between washing clothes, texting people and crying. humahagulgol ako. tapos tumawa lalo na noong benediction noong pastor na matanda.

i do hope and pray his leadership do us something good. andaming quotable quotes niya: sabi niya na kung tutulong ka sa ibang tao, hindi dahil sa charity lang (which in our context would be nearer to the concept of awa) but because it is for the greater common good. our own common good. I heard those words before. pero noong sinabi niya 'yung mga katagang iyon, it struck me sooo damn right at the heart of me.

sana manganak ang mga salita niya.
